Some Brazilian Municipal Heraldry.

Postby Marcus Karlsson » 13 Apr 2013, 11:19

I inagurate the South/Middle American Heraldry Section with a look on Brazilian Municipal Heraldry.

Brazil has a rich tradition of Municipal Heraldry loosely based on Portuguese Heraldry. There are however no Countrywide system and there are some good and some realy bad examples of Heraldry. Some main features can be made out the use of the Mural Crown and Mottos are to be found in almost all arms. Some other additions are also found especialy in the state of Sao Paulo like branches of Coffe round the Shields of Municipalities in coffeproducing areas and other crops peculiar to other areas. Industrial centers may have thier arms flanked by Factory Chimeys, there are also examples of the use of humans and animals as supporters. In some cases no external ornaments are used appart from Mural Crown and Motto.
