Pierre Cuypers' Arms
This is from the back of a piano in the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum, Pierre Cuypers was an architect who designed both the museum and Amsterdam Centraal Station.

Re: Pierre Cuypers' Arms
How strange. I wonder why he hid his arms on what must be the back of the piano.

True, it is the back, but it is not hidden. I suspect the piano would have been in the middle of the room, with the back facing away from the wall. In fact, that is how it is currently displayed in the museum. Here is a picture of the other side of the piano. https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/nl/search/objecten?q=piano&js=1&p=3&ps=12#/BK-1996-9,26
Is his hat a symbol of being a lay Dominican?

No it is an artists hat, nothing religious, but it could have been he built a lot of catholic churches.
