President Stojanov of Bulgaria

Postby Marcus Karlsson » 18 Jan 2013, 22:05

Image

Petar Stojanov (born 1952) was President of Bulgaria 1997-2002. Appointed Knight of the Swedish Order of the Seraphim on 27 October 2000. The use of the Arms of Bulgaria nearly makes one believe that we here have once more a King of Bulgaria. Oddly enough the former King Simeon II (as Simeon Sakskoburggotski, the Bulgarian Royal Family was of the Saxony-Coburg and Gotha Family as is the British Royal Family. The latter changed their name to Windsor during World War I) was Prime Minister of Bulgaria 2001-2005.

This Arms was naturaly not included in the Kungliga Serafimerorde Book, by belonged to a Series of New Order of the Seraphim Arms presented in the Vapenbilden (Journal of the Swedish Heraldry Society. No. 55 May 2003 and No. 58 May 2004).

Do you know if any of the other Presidents of Bulgaria have been awarded the Seraphim or Elephant orders?

Any idea what the motto means?

As far as I know President Stojanov is th only Bulgarian President so honoured. The Article in the Vapenbilden doesn't give any translation of Stojanov's Motto.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Bulgaria , it's the motto of Bulgaria, and means "Unity renders power". A sentiment expressed, in various forms and languages, in several countries' mottoes.

Evidently President Parvanov of Bulgaria was also honoured with the Order of the Seraphim, and a Stallplate with Arms has been painted for him. However these Arms are almost completely identical to those of President Stojano v , with a few very minor differences in the colour of the infulae (bands) attached to the Crown. I will post a picture once I get chance.

Motto means "Unity is strength".

And this is the Bulgarian royal coat of arms.
God save, God feeds,
Serbian King, Serbian nation!

They are (with supporters), the Arms of HM King Simeon of Bulgaria (and the former 1908-1946 Kingdom of Bulgaria), the present-day Bulgarian Republic (the two Arms are identical), and they have also been used to represent these two Presidents as Knights of the Order of the Seraphim.
