Thanks for posting this, Chris. Nice of the BBC to observe the 20th anniversary like this. The flag has been one of the success stories of the 'new South Africa'.

Mr Brownell was honoured for the flag by President Mandela, who awarded him the Order for Meritorious Service (Silver), roughly equivalent to a KBE, and by the international vexillological organisation, which gave him its most prestigious award.
