Present Arms of the Republic of Senegal in use since 1965. The Lion symbolises strength. The Baobab Tree is common in Senegal. The Wavy Fess symbolises the Senegal River. The Green Star above the Shield symbolises African Independence. The Motto (keept from the 1960 Arms) translates as "One People, One Goal, one Faith" and is shared with the Republic of Mali. Below the Shield hangs the National Order of the Republic of Senegal.

A note about baobabs: this genus of tree is commonly found throughout tropical Africa and in Madagascar (the Malagasy baobabs are quite extraordinary).
Within South Africa, however, baobabs are found solely in Limpopo, and for this reason one appears in the arms of that province: http://www.oocities.org/landswapen/NPe.html
