The HAW is a multinational Air Transport Unit with three C-17 Globemaster III, based at Pápa Air Base in Hungary. The Wing Insignia which shows clear U.S. Air Force influence using the same type of Shield.
Picture from the official site of the HAW http://www.heavyairliftwing.org/background/. I personally think they could have used the possibilities of Heraldry better.

USAF heraldry has no shortage of disappointing designs.

I have to pass the "arms" of the Eastern Air Defense Sector and NORAD daily when I get to work. It almost makes me want to claw my eyes out.

Yes the independent USAF post 1947 have had some rather disapointing heraldic designs. When part of the Army the Institute of Heraldry did however put forward som rather nice designs for USAAF/USAAC Units.

Re: Heavy Airlift Wing
While I agree that USAF has created some heraldry that is not so good, they have also created heraldry that is good.
Squadron-level patches should be disregarded from an heraldic point of view, as their design wasn't regulated until much later. However, Group and Wing insignia had some quite good designs (during the days of the USAAC), and some of that tradition has continued to current designs.

We have had in the past, but they keep disappearing every time the forum software has to be redone.
