In the Beginning of this Year the Swedish Defence Forces gained a new Unit when the Defence Forces Telecommunication and Information Systems Unit.
The Unit was soon awarded a Coat of Arms following Swedish Tradition it is shown placed on a Sword signifying a Joint Defence Force Unit:

Very un-Swedish tinctures. Have these arms been granted official approval?

Yes they have, they are published in the Report of the State Herald in the Year Book of the State Archives 2017.

I await with bated breath the condemnation that these arms may receive from members of the SHF (and indeed from members of the Swedish armed forces). The "winged basket ball" of the Special Air Transport Group is so typical of bad military heraldry.

Yes what should be a Terrestial Globe has the likedness of a Basket ball. Perhaps Only the Wing should had been used or an Eagle gules.

De gustibus & all that, but I like them! Simple, clean, distinctive, easy to recognize at a glance - good military heraldry.

The "basketball" could use a very simple modification - two additional latitudinal lines, one above & one below the equator. They could be straight horizontal lines, or curved something like this, but rotated 90°

That should clearly indicate "terrestrial ball" rather than "basketball"

I can't argue with that. But they simply lack any "Swedishness". Black white, red, makes me think first of all of the German second Reich; and the six pointed star is not Swedish at all, as far as I know. Compare with the arms in Marcus' original post.

Again, De Gusti...

The red, black, and white color scheme may not be everyone's favorite, but it does in this case provide sharp, clear visual contrasts. The white six-pointed stars on black, IIRC, reflect the arms of the Swedish military intelligence service of which these units are each a part. And the various charges on the field below the black chief generally reflect the mission of each unit. That's sufficient for me, though others may of course see, or expect, more.
