Well Chris to the Portuguese they seems to be Dragons, the Blason on the Air Force site says:

Dois dragões de púrpura, armados e lampassados de prata = Two Dragons purpure armed and languaged? Argent.

So in Portuguese Herladry they don't seem to make the distinction between a Dragon and a Wyvern.

At a guess, the chief and bend of the Manoeuvre Aerodrome's CoA reflect its two runways. But what is the tincture? Not argent because that is in the four-pointed star. Azure? Gray?? I suppose gray (same for the chief in the CoA beneath).

I recall reading that cendrée or cindrée was used for gray in some countries, and it was treated as a fur regarding the rule of tincture.

The blason on the Air Force Site says "De verde, chefe banda de prata carregado, na dextra, da estrela de quatro pontas, da OTAN, de branco e azul." So the tincture is Vert and Argent (in Port. Prata) and the NATO Star White and Blue.

I believe the instrument is intended to be a french horn (or trompa francesa in Portuguese). It is however unusual in that the mouthpiece end is inside rather than outside the circular tube. I can find no image on Google of a horn that matches it. Perhaps it is unique to Portugal, or perhaps the heraldic artist had no access to the real thing (but then why would the Portuguese Air Force accept the design?).
