Hello to all,
Here's a bit of eye candy from an early Bavarian armorial (1500s) and a challenge for those trying to decipher the calligraphic script. Enjoy.

Thanks for posting this, Kurt. Certainly lots of eye candy to enjoy.
This caged lion is an unusual design :

So are these arms :
Tolzner - Vol 2 img 68.png
Does anyone have any thoughts as to how to blazon them?

Could Tolzner be: Quarterly of nine per bend Gules and Or? (Remembering of course that the original blazon would have been in German, a feat beyond my modest accomplishments.)

Bendy of six Gu. & Or, a cross voided counterchanged?

Neun Felder jeder schräg geteilt von Rot und Gold?
That means:
Nine fields each obliquely divided by red and gold?

It's similar to this varied field, but at a different angle :

This is blazoned in German as "Gespickelt". In English, it can be "trianglée" or "triangled" or, if you prefer "barry indented point in point". Perhaps the Tolzner arms could be "bendy indented point in point"?

Schräggespickelt
Up to nine Felder are counted. In this case one speaks of a not counted gespickelten shield.
Klassische Schildteilung mit neun Feldern.

Thank you, Torsten. So it's "Schräggespickelt" in German.

Thank you Torsten for the German. It is important for us to know what the original blazon would be, even if there isn't always an English equivalent. In this case I take it to mean that my English blazon Quarterly of nine per bend Gules and Or is about as near as we Anglo-Saxons can get.

I'd say "Quarterly of nine EACH per bend Or and Gules" - without "each" I would picture solid red and gold squares with only numbers 1, 5, and 9 being parted per bend...
