Nice, there are some interesting charges in there, that I don't know. I listed the names:

Also, why does it start with the arms of the Duke of Wüttemberg?

I can't immediately find any link between the Dukes of Wurttemburg and Silesia, though they may conceivably have held lands there through marriage.

There are several question marks over this wappenbuch. Why, for example do the arms of three important princes, including the Prince-Bishop of Breslau, come after more minor nobles? Why is the cover page the last thing one comes to? I just wonder whether the first entries including Wurttemburg actually relate to Silesia at all. Hopefully someone expert in German heraldry and noble families can enlighten us.

Thanks for posting this, Chris. It's a very handsome book. I was very pleased to find the Von Merckel and Von Kamptz arms. They're both used in SA (though without any obvious right to them), and I'd been looking for source references for them.

According to Rietstap's Armorial General, the charges are :
* Zenge : a crowned column
* Buttner : a wooden basket
* Polombini : a "casque de dragon"
* Mützshepal : three columns
* Oheimb : a bull's cranium distilling blood.

For his contributions to heraldry and geneaology, Leonhard Dorst was ennobled by the Fürst (Prince) of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen as "Dorst von Schatzberg". His arms are shown below on this ex libris. Although married (to a von Prittwitz), he died without issue.

The book appears to have been scanned from back to front - the plates are numbered at the top right and are displayed in reverse order!

Here's one more link to another Silesian armorial dating from 1938 by Alfred Schellenberg, where as the author states the arms are arranged by (similarities of) image (...Anordnung nach Bildern) for the first time. There is also a black-and-white section with house marks and similar markings that follows the multicolor section with family arms.
