Two Blason questions

Postby Marcus Karlsson » 15 May 2016, 10:37

Dear Group!

I need some help with Blason. How does one blason a base wavy that is separated from the rest of the field by a thin Argent line. Will this due? a Base Wavy Azure fimbriated Argent.

The second question how does one blason two objects in saltire that is stung through the Crown of a Tree? will they be enfiling the Crown?

Hej Marcus! Glad Pingst!

The first blazon sounds right.

As to the second, what are the objects?

Enfiled means "encircled by". Thus a crown may enfile the trunk of a tree (or the trunk of a tree may be enfiled of/by a crown).

In the case you describe I would say (for example): Argent, on a Mount Vert an Oak Tree proper superimposed (or supercharged) on its crown per saltire a Key Or and a Sword Argent. "Supercharged" is a term referred to by Boutell but without any example. Both "supercharged" and "superimposed" imply placed upon (but not "on top of"), so there should be no confusion as to whether the key and sword somehow perch above the top of the tree.

If the sword and the key are depicted as passing through the tree, then I think the tree would be blazoned as "pierced" or "transfixed" by those items.

Indeed. I had it in my mind that they were, if you like, in front of the crown of the tree, but were they through the crown I would agree with Arthur's choice of words. An illustration would have helped!

Arthur's "pierced" or "transfixed" win the prize.
