My maternal grandparents met for the first time on the dock at Georgetown in 1913. Grandfather was an inspector in the Federated Malay States Police and his bride-to-be had come from England to marry him without ever having met him. My mother was born the following year in Taiping, Perak. I can find only one tiny image of Taiping's arms:

Nice family story Chris Green. As for the Arms of Taiping I can make of that the Shield contains a Sun and a Crescent. But do you know what the charge under the Crescent is supposed to be? A Ship perhaps.
