Kryvi Kolina - Ukraine 2020.jpg

Kryvi Kolina, in Ukraine, has one of the newest municipal coats of arms in the world, approved less than a month ago, on 24 February.

The blazon, according to this website on Ukrainian heraldry is : "Vert; gyronny arrondi by wings of a windmill Or, doubles charged abaised by fesses Azure, the wings accompanied by Trypillya pattern Or gyronny arrondi. The shield is inscribed in a golden decorative cartouche and crowned with a golden rural crown. At the bottom of the cartouche is the inscription "KRYVI KOLINA" and "1775".

"Vert and Or mean nature and grain, the wings of a windmill are symbol of agriculture and flour production, fesses are symbol of the Hirs'kyi Tykyc river, which gave the name to the village. Trypillya pattern is a symbol of the ancient Trypillya settlement that existed on the site of the modern village."

The "authors" (designers?) are V.Napytkin and K.Bohatov.

Clearly the blazon has lost something in the translation. Would anyone like to suggest an alternative version?

Basically, I like the design.

However, I would get rid of the blue and make the gyrons plain gold - too fussy otherwise!

I will give some thought to blasoning the design. It will be an interesting exercise!

Regards all,

Iain

Ditto Kryvni. It could be made clean and simple...but in the end, it's their arms so should be up to them.
