So I've got a coat of arms, what shall I do with it?

I hope to brew a hard cider of my own and was of course going to create a label with my coat of arms on it. I will post pictures when it's completed - I expect to be giving gifts of cider to my family this year for Christmas.

Maybe I can use some as an incentive to get more than the two of us together for a New England meeting of heraldry enthusiasts!

Re: So I've got a coat of arms, what shall I do with it?
As a youngster I rather fancied the idea of having my arms on my car door or on the bonnet (hood). But in South Africa’s climate of crime that would be an invitation to have the car stolen.
Magnetic mounts for the doors would probably be pinched just as readily.
But I have always also fancied the idea of wearing my coat of arms as a garment (like a surcoat) — knitted as a jersey or in appliquéd cloth.
However I have no skill in sewing or knitting, and my wife no longer does either, so I will have to wait until I find someone who is willing to do it for me.
A flag (banner or standard) is also a worthwhile possibility.
If I were to have table mats printed, I think I would prefer to use my shield only, or the shield on larger mats and the crest on smaller ones.
One can all too easily use armorial art in too much detail in too small a space.
I should probably also give some thought to making a shield (plastic art) to mount above my front door.
Regards,
Mike

I feel that I am rapidly approaching the age where one ought to consider a hatchment.

Come on, Martin! Surely you don’t have a foot in the grave already!
But I suppose that if you want to be remembered with one, it is never too early to have it painted and ready for use.

At least there is a very good chance of it being correct! (Especially if you run the design past this Forum!).

I'm not yet toward that end of the actuarial tables, but lamentably I lost my wife to cancer last year. In the months leading up to the end, we had the opportunity to discuss many details, including a headstone, and the inclusion of my arms thereon. She never matched my enthusiasm for heraldry, but indulged it graciously, even at the end.
