Hi folks,

While getting a few classics for my Kindle I found that there are five free eBooks on heraldry at the Gutenberg sight.

This is the link.

And type in "heraldry".

If only I had known that the Kama Sutra was a heraldry book forty years ago!

A good sight. What I am noticing is that these books in general are OLD! There is not current practical guide for dumb Americans. Hmmmm... do I see a book idea forming in my head?

There are mountains of modern heraldry books, though none I think specifically for Americans. Shall we make a list?

PS: I think you meant site.

The reason they are old books, is that they are all books in the public domain, due the the expiration of copyright. Granted, one could write a new book and release it as free, but for some reason, this is rarely done.

If you do want to read a newer book without paying, I suggest your local library, if they don't have a book you can request it, or try an interlibrary loan.

I guess I am use to many authors putting their work out as free eBooks after a few years. As for my local library, ... it is improving. I'll give it that. ; )

I recently realized all the potential my local library had, if I just knew how to use it correctly.

We all appreciate the availability of archived books on-line but there is nothing like holding a book in your hands. Bed time reading is not the same with a pdf.
