The crests of the Princes of Liechtenstein and Monaco?

Postby Jonathan Webster » 02 Aug 2014, 19:49

Does anyone know if the Arms of the Princes of Monaco or the Princes of Liechtenstein have ever featured a crest and if so; what are they?

The picture of the founding Prince Karl 1 (1569-1627) appended to the attached Wiki page shows his arms without a crest. However he was the son of Baron Hartmann of Liechtenstein, and this gentleman probably possessed a crest, as did his son prior to being raised to the princely title.

The Manesse Codex has a picture of one Herr Ulrich von Liechtenstein (tafel 77) but the arms are completely different and his family was apparently not linked to the Austrian Liechtensteins. So that is a red herring.

The search goes on ...

Hmm how would we blazon the crest of the Monegasque Prince?

"Rising from a ducal coronet a fleur-de-lys Or between a palm branch to dexter and a laurel branch to sinister both Proper.", is how I would blazon it.
How would you do it?

..... it is rarely seen.

Not surprising really! The princely crown has that je ne sais quoi that a couple of sprigs of foliage could never achieve.
