Today the postman brought Shakespeare's Heraldry by W. Scott Giles illustrated by the author. Published in 1950. The few color plates and mostly b/w line drawings illustrate the arms of those mentioned in Shakespeare's works. Very interesting book.

, I saw this book once at a book market I walked another round to think about buying the book and it was gone never saw another copy again which proves that if you want it buy it then and there or somebody else will.

Sounds fascinating. Could you scan a couple of pages for our delectation? What about Talbot and Scroop for example?

A TRUE gem for my collection came in the mail today. The deluxe edition in publisher's morocco binding of The Heralds' Commemorative Exhibition 1484-1934, held at the College of Arms, example no. 252/300 which also happens to have George Viner, FSA's bookplate in it. This is one I've been trying to get hold of for some time and now I finally have it. This will be one of my most prized possessions.

Looking at Amazon I found a number of these for sale including one bearing images of copy 252, which I find curious and slightly worrying.

There were re-prints done in later years and a few of them are about at reasonable prices. It gets a little more expensive when getting the limited edition original printing. As to images from the same edition I have there could be a reasonable explanation for that (i.e. the seller hasn't updated their Amazon page yet to reflect that it is no longer available). But, #252 is now sitting on my shelf so I'm not bothered.

Apropos of Shakespeare's Heraldry a quick check of ABE Books site suggests that there are few copies of the 1950 edition out there. For those who have not encountered ABE ---it links up bookseller from around the world--- I have bought through them (Boutell last) and found them reliable.
The Heralds' Commemorative Exhibition 1484-1934 is also out there it seems.
