Fun with Canting Arms and Mottos.

Postby Bernard Juby » 16 Apr 2022, 09:45

Let's have some fun with examples of canting Arms and Mottos.
The late heraldist, Rev Frank Best, has a quote from a Psalm, "Be Still In The Lord" - the first four letters of which spell his surname.
The old National federation of Self-Employed & Small Businesses Ltd (now the "fsb" has a Motto where the initial letters spell NFSE.
These are for starters - there are many more out there.

Sir Harry Secombe's motto was 'Go On'.*
John Campbell-Kease's motto is 'Partake as equals'.

A South African family named Brand, of German origin, bears canting arms depicting a flaming cauldron ("brand" means "fire").

Alas all too often the images that I have are too large to add but two versions of Schumacher have boots and shoes in them.

If you click on the picture you want to upload you should be able to resize it. In "file info" click on the "..." top right and you will find "resize" Click on that and there will be several options.

The achievement of the Standard Bank of South Africa, granted in 1955, contains both canting arms and a canting motto, which can be translated as "let the standard advance".

Thanks - but no matter what I do they just don't get small enough.
