Solent University - CoA 2020.jpg

A recent example of English academic arms : those of Solent University in Southampton. They were granted by the College of Arms in 2020.

The arms represent the Isle of Wight and the Solent (the strait which separates the isle from the mainland). The crest is a pair of gannets "fencing". The supporters are "Warsash dragons", which were the original device of the university's maritime school. (Warsash is the village near Southampton, where the school is based.)

Who would like to try to blazon the arms?

Dear Ryan,

A good try but you have left out the angled base of the chief - if, in fact, the top of the design is regarded as a chief.

However, I can not think of anything better at this stage.

Regards,

Iain

It might be "per chevron enhanced fitchy". Unfortunately, while the university website explains the symbolism of the design, it doesn't give the actual blazon.
