The Lord Lyon and his staff are certainly doing a great job providing us with heraldic material during the pandemic. Quite apart from the 'Heraldry for Self-Isolationists' series, which is now in its seventh week (and which we have already mentioned here), they have started a series of short talks by Lord Lyon.

The first talk is on 'Petitioning'. It runs to just under 14 minutes.

That's one way of keeping him busy ;-)

Lord Lyon is indeed keeping busy. His second talk, on 'Granting the great heraldic privilege of supporters', is now online. Only just over six minutes long, beginning with some thoughts and views on the Lyon Court's judicial powers.

Update : He has now added a third talk : 'Community Flags'.

And another short talk on the granting of supporters.

The latest is not a talk by Lord Lyon as such, but an interview/conversation with Dr Bruce Durie at the opening of the Clan Macfarlane Worldwide Digital Games.

Lyon's brief opening address is at 01:55, and the conversation begins at 04:05.

Learn why the Lyon Court has replaced Tudor bonnets with plumed bicorne hats on its ceremonial uniform. And how Lyon applies the "three Rs" -- Respect (for tradition), Relevancy and Renewal -- in the Lyon Court.

A pity that Dr Morrow does not like the 'traditional' bonnet! I personally prefer the bonnet to the bicorne hat. It is, in my opinion, a more three-dimensional piece of head ware and sits better on an individual's head.

I agree with Iian. The bonnets look more Scottish (perhaps from seeing them over the decades) & less like stage props from a Gilbert & Sullivan musical...
"For I am the Herald of the Pinafore,
And a right good Herald too..."

But de gustibus... :)
