Apparently, there is a call to change the coat of arms of Queensland. If they do, I hope the koala supporter is drawn is a better attitude.

Looking at the poll they have there, the current red deer isn't even a choice. If they do go with the koala as a supporter, it should at least be supporting the arms.

Another newspaper not checking its facts - crest when it should be coat of arms.

Perhaps we should offer free consultation to journalists regarding heraldic matters.

I think it would be a good idea. It certainly would not hurt.
If a newspaper can't check simple and easily verifiable things, how can anyone have any confidence in anything that they report?

I seem to recall that many years ago that, until he disappeared, Frederick Hogarth of The Baronage Press offered a journalists and authors guide to heraldry and titles. It never prevented any newspaper from getting it wrong.

Or perhaps we should all just collectively get over it. A shield with a design on it is only a "coat" of arms because we associate it by metonymy with the actual surcoat bearing the same design. Why can we not accept that people are going to use the term crest to apply to the shield or even the entire "coat" of arms through much the same process?
(Question: What is a Pavlovian talbot? A breed of dog that salivates when someone calls a coat of arms a crest.)
