If I know anything about Sweden the argument may centre not around a Swedish cardinal, but why the RC church in Sweden has no female priests.

An interesting emblazonment, but the shield is very un-Swedish.

Why is that a problem?

I didn't say it was a problem, I merely pointed out a fact.

As a decidedly minority church in Sweden, it might be important to not go out of their way to look more "foreign" than they have to. The galero is already foreign enough! IIRC the usual Swedish way to display personal arms of a bishop with those of the diocese is quarterly, so "when in Stockholm..." ;)

Which is not a criticism of the impaled version, which is quite nice - just less Swedish.

Bishop Arborelius already impales his arms, rather than quarter, so that is probably why impalement was chosen this time as well. Also, while impalement is not all that used in the Church of Sweden, is is used, i.e. by the former archbishop of Uppsala, Anders Wejryd, both as bishop of Växjö and as archbishop of Uppsala.

Well in the First Picture shown of Arborelius Arms as Bishop his Arms is Quartered (Torsten Laneryd's Post). This is also by Davor Zovko, so there is examples of both practices. And yes the traidtional pratice in Sweden is Quartering, but as Claus Berntsen points out there are some examples of impalement. And indeed also of other practices in uniting the Arms of the Diocese and the Bishop. Bishop Hans Stiglund of Luleå for instance has a Shield per fess with the diocesean Arms in the upper part and the personal arms in the lower part.

Nice variety of practices! - given which, any of these approaches should be fine!
