First som notes about territorial changes. The Chita Oblast merged with the Agin Buryat Autonomous Okrug on 1 March 2008 to form the Zabaykalsky Krai. This new Region uses the Arms of the old Chita Oblast.

I do realise that the Pskov arms are supposed to illustrate a blessing coming from heaven, but I cannot help chuckling, as the hand looks as if it is shooting the leopard, just as when we were children in the school playground we pretended our fingers were pistols.

As children, we would shoot rubber bands at each other using our fingers. It's all fun and games until the teacher catches you.
