Arms of Nanticoke, PA

Arms of the City of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. The Lozengy Field denotes the Coal mined in the Area. The Arrow denotes the Nanticoke Indian Tribe. The Crest symbolises the cooperation between the City's inhabitants the Wreath shows the State Flower of Pennsylvania - Mountain Laurel. The Arms was created in the Year of the 200th Anniversary of the USA and approved by the City Council on 17 May 1976. The Designers was Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Winiarczyk and Mr Richard Crossett.

Sad that they felt the need to include the town's name as a sort of substitute for a helm.

Apart from that unfortunate blemish, I think this is pretty good and rather commendable for a small American town.

The original design probably did not include the date and the town's name.

I do not know anything about Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Winiarczyk (although I have heard of him), but, the late Mr Richard Crossett was well versed in heraldry and one of the United States best heraldic artists.

It would be great to have some sort of "official" register of American arms, especially for governments. But that is Un-American. We never use arms here. :roll: Even my Hill Billy county has a Coat of Arms. Just don't ask for the blazon of them. :lol:

I like it. And considering just how bad some of the heraldry is here in the US, I feel it was executed well.

Per fess dancetty of four points upwards Tenne and lozengey Argent and Sable in chief a native American arrowhead Argent.

The chief half is actually supposed to be Gules; the yellow dots are probably the result of "dithering," a problem with computer graphics that is now largely a thing of the past with modern browsers.

I think that the 'dithering' is associated more with image files in the GIF format and/or other formats that do not support 32/64 bit colour spectrum.
