Re: Heraldry of the Guardia Civil
The lozenge inescutcheon of the Cavalry Squadron is highly unusual, though there are several instances of lozenges used in civic heraldry in Aragon.

Re: Heraldry of the Guardia Civil
Dear Chris,
The lozenge is unusual as an 'inescutcheon'.
However, as a charge which has been further charged, I think it works a lot better than a shield.
Regards,
Iain Boyd

We Anglo-Saxons have to get over the idea that a lozenge is solely the female version of a shield. Spanish practice was/is not the same.

Re: Heraldry of the Guardia Civil
In this Case I would assume that the lozenge alludes to the lozenge shaped collar patches of the uniform of the squadrons' members (and other Guardia Civil members). This form is not used anymore.
